Patrick Michael Wickham, V.P.P. - Vocal Integration, Creative Director
Advanced technique, professional technique

A pioneer in successfully combining the fields of voice technique, structural integration and vocal physiology, Patrick Michael Wickham has achieved considerable success as a young teacher. Tone deaf and bereft of almost any vocal skill at the age of 13, Mr. Wickham began an intense study of human vocal mechanics that enabled him to manipulate his own instrument. Proving persistence (and not talent) to be the key to success, his obsession led him to eventual ensemble and principal cover roles at the New City Opera, two time N.A.T.S. finalist status, district finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, and two Broadway tours by the age of Twenty-four.  Specializing in popular opera and crossover repertoire, he has been professionally engaged all over the country in rock concerts, operas, musicals, and recently on Cunard’s Queen Mary 2.

A voice specialist to many celebrity clients, Mr. Wickham has been featured on Inside Edition, Vh1, ESPN, and interviewed in Time Out, The New Yorker, Backstage and the Village Voice. His many students include professional singers from all over the world who have appeared on and off Broadway as leads and supporting players in over eighty shows nationally, as well as principal performers at The Metropolitan, New York City, Houston Grand, Chicago Lyric, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Seattle, Atlanta, and Nashville Opera houses; his students have been signed with record labels such as Jive, Atlantic, Universal, Virgin, So So Def and Sony.

Mr. Wickham is best known as the inventor of the Vocal IntegrationTM Method, an innovative, highly-effective and expandable synthesis of voice physiology, bel canto technique, structural integration, auditory feedback and functional visualization techniques.  Combining information from over 90 voice teachers, therapists, doctors and other practitioners, Vocal IntegrationTM represents one of the most comprehensive and unified methods for training the human voice currently available.  (Fall 2008 marked the long-awaited public release of Vocal IntegrationTM training to voice teachers).

Mr. Wickham is the founder and creative director of Wickham Vocal Studios, one of New York's most-renowned private voice institutions, with a roster of over 150 students and over 1000 alumni.  Wickham Vocal Studios also maintains studios in Atlanta, Southern Pines (NC), and the Los Angeles studio is slated to officially open in January 2009.

He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the New York Singing Teachers Association and is an active participant in community arts outreach programs such as Revelucion Latina.

In addition to studies in voice and composition at Vanderbilt’s Blair School of Music, Manhattan School of Music, The Julliard School et al., Mr. Wickham has pursued studies in voice anatomy and physiology (specializing in developmental otolaryngology) at the renowned Vanderbilt Voice Center at Vanderbilt Medical School under the mentorship of program founder Dr. Robert Ossoff.  He is further certified in advanced massage therapy techniques and has trained in structural integration.

Mr. Wickham is a student and Protégé of Maitland Peters, Chairman of the voice department at the Manhattan School of Music. Mr. Peters’ artistry and expert knowledge of vocal technique are reflected in the success of Vocal IntegrationTM.  He is also a graduate of the William Esper Studio for acting (studying with Mr. Esper for five years), and maintains a professional affiliate relationship with that studio as its singing program.

A prolific and published composer, Mr. Wickham is currently involved in the completion of the original off Broadway cast recording of his fifth musical, Bellevue Sketches, which was produced at The Players Theatre in June of 2009.

An accomplished stage and musical director, he will proudly be helming the Moore On Stage regional production of Oklahoma in February 2010 in Southern Pines, NC.

Mr. Wickham resides in Manhattan but maintains private teaching studios in Southern Pines, Los Angeles and Atlanta.
